What is Thermography?

Thermography is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that converts infrared radiation emitted from the skin surface into electrical impulses that are visualized in color. The spectrums of colors indicate an increase or decrease in the amount of infrared radiation being emitted from the body surface.

Thermography can graphically display and record the subjective feeling of pain by objectively displaying the changes in skin surface temperature that are produced by pain states.

Thermography has a major clinical value is in its high sensitivity to pathology in the vascular, muscular, neural and skeletal systems and as such can contribute to a diagnosis by the clinician.

Why Would I Get a Thermogram?

In reading over the examples below, you’ll be able to see some of the wide applications for Thermography:

  • Significant fibrocystic and other breast conditions can be detected with Thermal Imaging, benefiting especially women younger than 50 years of age.
  • Other conditions such as auto-immune and estrogen dominance can be detected and monitored.
  • Some women just prefer to scan their breast yearly with thermography due to the increase risk of breast cancer utilizing mammography.

  • A football player suffered with a stress fracture that went undetected with an x-ray but was detected with Medical Thermography.
  • Thermography can guide treatments for pain conditions, bringing better results.
  • A painful ankle injury can be monitored throughout treatment and rehabilitation to “see” which treatment is most effective.
  • This is the best technology known to date that can detect suspicious breast patterns early.
